Cardiff, Wales: Buzzing and Full of Life...
It was only forty-some years ago (in 1955) that Cardiff became the capital city of Wales. But in that short time, the city has risen to the occasion, full of life, and buzzing with energy, Cardiff has aggressively pursued expansion and tried to because a tourist destination, and to a large degree, it has succeeded.

Cardiff Attractions / Places to See

Not surprisingly, as a new capital city, many of the popular attractions are as buzzing with energy as the city itself. They are modern attractions designed to appeal to the visitor mindset. For instance, Millennium Stadium, with more than 74,000 seats, has played host to the 1999 Rugby World cup and now also hosts the Wales national football and rugby teams, it’s a must-see for any sports lovers.

The Wales Millennium Center sports great modern architecture and plays host to several musicals and operas during the year. Opened in 2004, the Wales Millennium Center has free admittance throughout the year.

Naturally, any capital city is going to have government buildings. The National Assembly for Wales is this nation’s government seat and is fascinating for a day’s visit. Visitors will get to watch public debates from a public viewing gallery. There are also free tours around the building, allowing you to get up-close and personal with the modern Welsh architecture.

Cardiff Castle is another must-see destination. This is a large castle built upon the foundation of an old Roman fort; almost every inch of this castle is adorned with beautiful artistic works.

Museums and Galleries in Cardiff

Cardiff doesn’t have as many museums and galleries as other travel destinations, but it still has its fair share. For instance, the Museum of Welsh Life at St. Fagans is great for the whole family and features a magnificent garden.

The National Museum & Gallery of Wales hosts an excellent assortment of paintings that is strong on Impressionists, but which covers all other periods as well. It also features geological and archaeological exhibits, shops and cafés.

And for the science and technology fans, Techniquest at Cardiff Bay is definitely worth a visit. It has more than 160 technology and science exhibits that are sure to entertain everyone in the family.
